RCM R702 S2 Synergy, The world’s first hybrid sweeper
Today, the term ‘hybrid’ has become commonplace in the vocabulary of motorists to indicate a vehicle with dual fuel: the first (mostly) petrol for extra-urban routes, the second electric for urban routes.
This is a smart solution that has also been applied to the professional cleaning sector, where an industrial floor scrubber-dryer or a sweeper may be required to operate both outdoors (petrol) and indoors (battery).
This is what RCM (Raimondi Costruzioni Meccaniche) did back in 1992 with the R702 S2 Synergy, a ride-on sweeper with a cleaning width of 70 cm. This hybrid sweeper was designed specifically to participate in a tender by the Italian Air Force, which was looking for innovative floor cleaning machines.
At the time, it was not so fashionable to think in terms of energy saving or ecology, but RCM, further confirming its predisposition to innovation, proposed a solution that was completely unexpected, at least for the industrial cleaning sector.
