Ca’ del Rio: yesterday and today

A successful entrepreneur in the mechanical sector, Ivo Piombini has always loved the countryside. By cultivating this love and this land (first in his free time then in a professional way) he created  Ca’ del Rio!

 

Casinalbo (Formigine, Modena).

The “Rio” is the Rio Cerca, the historic canal that from the River Secchia has fed for centuries the activities of Modena and crosses the colonial complex in suggestive inlets among cherry trees, vineyards and the woods. A little natural magic to enjoy in the public footpath.

Why black cherries?

Ivo Piombini began with the abrupt black cherry typical of Modena, a resistant and beautiful plant: he did not immediately think of the fruit but of the beauty of the flower and the fact that the plant required little maintenance: in short, sustainable beauty.

Always animated by an “enlightened” entrepreneurial spirit, he planted the innovative (20…?) organic grape cultivation and a small forest.

 

Now it produces 200 quintals of black cherries

More than black cherries! Amarenando, lhe party now in its 7th edition in which are distributed (one thousand, this year) excellent granite of fresh cherries.

The Piombini were also good restaurateurs and so, in addition to sour cherries, they started important accommodation activities.

The structures of the old farmhouse have been beautifully restored and transformed into the restaurant Ca’ del Rio and a complex of rooms, suites and apartments.

What’s a heliport and a truffle farm about?

For Piombini it seems natural, in case someone wants to arrive or depart by helicopter (maybe to see the Ghirlandina up close) or enjoy fresh truffles at km.0 all year round. For those who want to get there by bike, there is nothing better than crossing the Rural Park in which there is Ca del Rio.

What are the plans for the future?

Firstly, to involve the new generations more and more so that this project can continue over time.

Second, for now: to create the Garden of Ancient Plants and the Garden of New Products.

It is not only the geographical proximity (Km 0) but also the cultural proximity (doing good things that last over time) that Ca’ del Rio has entrusted to RCM machines the important task of keeping the floors clean at all times.

A In Ca’ del Rio there are the restaurant, the suites, the apartments, the offices, the sheds for the working of the black cherries. Each room has its own needs, but with RCM scrubbers and the right detergent for the situation, cleaning is really easy!
