18 May 2010 - RCM is to take part in CLEAN BRUSH with Bio Brush,

the biodegradable brushes CLEAN GREEN, the “Prize for eco-design and innovation for environmental sustainability in the professional cleaning sector”, this was founded by ADIFAMP, which is in its second edition.
In 2009, RCM obtained a special mention with their hydrogen sweeper, the SLALOM H2CLEAN and they take part in this edition with BIO BRUSH, the 100% biodegradable brush using “FIBio” technology.
RCM have always been at the cutting edge of new technology and ECO-EFFICIENT products research, and have signed an agreement for the exclusive right for the production of biodegradable brushes for their sweeping machine and washer/dryers.
RCM-BIO BRUSHES play a significant part in the diffusion policy and are of real value to the development of a “Zero Waste” philosophy.
100% biodegradability and environmentally sustainable
The FIBio technology has helped in the production of the first 100% biodegradable fibre thanks to the use of special additives which have produced the biodegradable plastic.
The technology consists of (upto 1%) substances which alter traditional plastics when they come into contact with Co2 and water, (over a period of time).
Wear of the bristles
The brushes are very important to the every day running of the sweeper or scrubber; an industrial sweeper or scrubber consumes (and disperses) on average, 2.5kg of dust into the environment per year and for some sweepers this can be a lot higher. Its difficult to make an overall assessment, but it is estimated that 165 tonnes of dust (150 in the industrial sector and 15 in the urban) is dispersed into the environment through ‘brush wear only’ on sweepers and scrubbers manufactured in Italy alone!
In the vast majority of cases, all sweeper and scrubber brushes so far have been built from synthetic, non-biogradable materials and this vast amount of material will continue to be dispersed into the atmosphere for hundreds or even thousands of years!
“Zero Waste” Processing
All this could be completely eliminated through the use of RCM’s “Bio Brush” made from 100% biodegradable P.P.
The dust that is released into the environment ends up in drainage water where the micro-organisms activate the process of biodegradation releasing Co2 and water.
Disposal of Supports
The brush support (disc or roller) does not biodegrade, but it is 60/70% of the total weight of the brush and it accumulates to 400 tonnes of disposed material, this is also the same for the plastic support and other derivatives of predominantly urban sweepers.
In this case we can recycle, but the process can only be done once, and each kg of non-biodegradable plastic will last a lifetime.
General Environmental Sustainability
Renewable Energy
The supports, as well as being recycled, can also be composted and constitute a new form of clean and renewable energy in the form of biomass.
Economy of Disposal
The disposal of the bio-brush is also cheaper as the disposal of biodegradable materials costs less than non-differentiated waste (or nothing at all).
Culture and Farming

The production of biodegradable plastics does not undermine the importance of food crops, indeed the plastics of organic origin (from starches and sugars which are rich in cereals) damage the corn and crop cultivations that for centuries have been the
Guaranteed Duration
The “FIBio” fibres used by RCM have the same quality and duration as the un-treated fibres.
The biodegradation process begins once the fibres are in contact with other materials during composition.
“Green” Purchases
The biodegradable RCM “Bio-brushes” are environmentally sustainable and are “green” purchases by public administration (Green Public Procurement).
The biodegradation is essential for the environment, hopefully getting rid of waste for a cleaner future.
