15 September 2009 - Innovation - hydrogen: clean power to clean

SLALOM H2CLEAN, has been shown inside the “innovation area” in the RCM stand durino the exhibition Pulire 2009. It’s the first sweeper powered with hydrogen fuel cells motor.
It has been created and developed basing on the technical experience of the technical school IPSIA Ferrari in Maranello and the fuel cells made by Exergy-Morphic.
The system is composed of a solar panel producing the energy needed to separate Oxigen and Hydrogen inside water.
The hydrogen is then put inside a flask which is mounted on the machine (RCM sweeper Slalom) and will feed the Fuel Cells to produce electric power.
So SLALOM H2CLEAN is an electric machine (24V) but its motor are not driver by batteries, but by an hydrogen motor (fuel cells).
Many advantages of this system: the weight of the machine is lighter (no battery installed), more working autonomy, total enviromental friendly as there is no dangerous or pollution emission.
These benefits become bigger and bigger on the big machines (both scrubber-dryers and sweepers) where battery is up to 800 Kg on a total 2.200 kg weight.
Therefore even working autonomy, which is an important fact on big machines, will be increased; just thinking about to change every 4-5 hours a big battery or a small flask.
